Introduction

This page contains information about how gearing works in WAR and links to equipment sets for every Career.

Equipment description

Gear is another term for equipment. When assembling best-in-slot (BiS) gear, players generally combine armor, jewelry, and weapons obtained from several sources.

Equipment screen

The image below shows the character equipment screen.

EquipmentScreen.png

It consists of several areas to pay attention to:

  1. Event item slot. These items are usually earned through Influence or live-event tasks and commonly expire after 7 to 90 real-world days.
  2. Armor slots. These items provide protection and may grant set bonuses. From top to bottom:
    • Head
    • Shoulders
    • Back
    • Chest
    • Hands
    • Belt
    • Boots
  3. Pocket items – These slots hold cosmetic or novelty items, Tome of Knowledge rewards, and certain bonus items such as this keg.
  4. Weapon slots – These hold primary, secondary, and ranged weapons. Weapon options vary by career and may include one-handed weapons, two-handed weapons, shields, staves, or ranged weapons.
  5. Jewelry – Four slots are available. Jewelry does not provide armor, but some pieces belong to jewelry sets or combined jewelry-and-armor sets.
  6. Trophies – Up to five cosmetic trophies can be attached to armor. If an “X” appears on a trophy icon, use the arrows to move it to another attachment point.
  7. Banner slot – Used by the guild banner carrier.

Set bonuses

Armor and jewelry sets, including sets that combine both item types, provide additional bonuses. For example, equipping two pieces of the Conqueror set on a Choppa grants +57 Strength. Additional pieces may grant further statistics, passive effects, or utility bonuses.

Equipment progression

In Warhammer Online there are several requirements that you need to meet in order to wear an item:

  1. Career (Class) Rank (Level).
  2. Optional - Renown Rank.
  3. Optional - Ward.

The Ward system structures gear progression. There are seven wards, each unlocked by obtaining the required armor pieces.

Equipment sources

Most armor sets are purchased with War Crests or War Tokens, which are part of the unified currency system. Armor and its associated currencies can be earned through:

You can choose to gear up with either PvP or PvE, and generally, a mix of both will provide the best-in-slot rewards for those looking to perfectly hone their character.

Talismans

Some armor pieces, weapons, and jewelry have talisman slots. Talismans add statistics such as Strength, armor, or resistances to an item. They can be obtained from quests, Public Quests, the Auction House, or Talisman Making.

To insert a talisman, move the item to your backpack and Shift + right-click it.

Place the talisman in the slot and select Fuse.

Important notes:

  • Talismans are single-use and cannot be extracted after fusing.
  • Two talismans with the same bonus value cannot be fused into a two-slot weapon. For example, two +19 Willpower talismans cannot be used together, but one +19 and one +22 Willpower talisman can.
  • A talisman's item level cannot exceed the equipment's item level. For example, an endgame +24 Wounds talisman cannot be placed in the Decimator Set.
