Cockatrice

A Cockatrice is a large creature resembling a large winged lizard with the crested head and legs of a rooster. They would at first glance, seem to be comical creatures. Their appearance is certainly bizarre, being an unnatural amalgam of distinctly different creatures, which suggests the influence of Chaos on these creatures' origins.
The gaze of a Cockatrice is said to petrify anyone who meets it. Their lairs, surrounded by the pecked-apart corpses of beasts many times larger than themselves, would seem to indicate that they have some sort of advantage over sizeable prey.
