True Damage

True Damage, or 'Unmitigatable Damage', is damage that hits a player for a specific amount of damage or an exact amount of their health.

Both players and PvE Bosses have access to True Damage in Return of Reckoning.

Player abilities that deal True or Morale Damage

Players have Morale Abilities which generally apply True Damage to a target and do not roll avoidance checks. However, there is a reduction applied to this damage if the enemy target has already lost a specific amount of their HP to other Morale abilities in a short window of time.

This is to prevent Morale Bombs from taking an entire enemy warband from 100% HP to 0% instantly. Even though doing these bombs may now result in diminishing returns on damage, the pressure applied to the enemy is generally well worth it in PvP situations.

Boss Abilities that deal True Damage

Many Dungeon and Raid bosses also deal True Damage. As an example:

  • Lost Vale's Ahzranok will always periodically hit his target for 50% of their HP.

Managing True Damage

Both in PvE and PvP situations, True Damage requires healers to be awake at the wheel and ready to quickly group heal or focus heals onto targets that need it.

Many healers may also use their own Morales, like Focused Mind or their Absorb M3, to attempt to counter enemy Morale drops.

In PvE situations, the bosses generally have a cooldown between true damage, so just don't leave the tank at low HP for too long and you should be fine if their overall avoidance (Block or Parry) is high.
